EASY SOLUTIONS RELEASES RESULTS OF ANNUAL SURVEY ON VIEWS OF LATIN AMERICAN CONSUMERS ON ELECTRONIC FRAUD
Consumers Gaining Greater Awareness of their Role in Preventing Fraud; Growing More Willing to Employ Anti-Fraud Technologies
Sunrise, FL. – September 22, 2014 – Easy Solutions®, the Total Fraud Protection® company, today released the 2014 "Views of Latin American Consumers on Electronic Fraud” report. Given the recent breaches at Target, Home Depot and other retailers, consumers worldwide have a right to be concerned about the security of their financial transactions. The comprehensive research survey focused on consumers from Latin America (which often leads the way in anti-fraud technology) to understand their perceptions and attitudes regarding electronic fraud and security methods.
Some key findings from the report include:
> Mobile banking is growing in popularity in Latin America, with 50% of those performing online transactions use a mobile device. While this is cutting into traditional banking channels like branch offices and ATM machines, many users who have no problem performing transactions on the Internet from their computers are wary about doing so on a mobile device.
> For the first time in the survey's history (the survey is in its 5th year), users saw themselves as the main party responsible for the security of their electronic transactions, followed closely by their bank.
> About 40% of users have installed some kind of protection on their computer besides antivirus software. Users are growing more willing to employ these kinds of programs to keep their transactions safe.
> A large majority of users expect that their bank will monitor transactions and offer stronger authentication options, and most users said they would be more willing to perform transactions on banking and shopping sites that use such fortified security measures.
"Mobile technology is becoming a dominant transaction platform worldwide, and Latin American users are taking advantage of the convenience offered by mobile banking,” said Silvia Lopez, Chief Marketing Officer for Easy Solutions. “We are encouraged to see that users are also growing aware of the need for security, both on their mobile devices as well as their other Internet banking channels (PCs or laptops). This indicates a willingness by consumers to leverage the kinds of innovative security technologies that banks are able to provide today, to reduce their chances of being targeted by these attacks.”
Data was collected via telephone interviews between May and June, 2014 by an independent market research agency, with online banking users of age 20 and older in all Latin America. This report marks the fifth year that Easy Solutions has performed this study with Latin American consumers about online banking and electronic fraud.
